Avenida do Sameiro, in Braga

The sidewalk of the Santuário do Sameiro in Braga is on Avenida do Sameiro, parish of Espinho, city of Braga, northern Portugal.
Characteristics of the Sameiro Sanctuary sidewalk

The sidewalk of the Sameiro Sanctuary appears covered in white and black limestone, and the most important drawings appear highlighted in black color combined with an artistic and symbolic sense that this temple represents.

The design of the crown that appears on the pavement depicts a sacred place, and the stars that appear on the sidewalk throughout the Sanctuary represent the guidance that means in religious terms that we must follow the example of Jesus Christ, a path of humility, an attitude of total trust in God.
Some biblical phrases written on the pavement of the Sameiro Sanctuary

In the Portico of the Saints Doctors: four statues of Saint Cyril of Alexandria, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Saint Anthony of Lisbon and Saint Alfonso Maria de Ligório, and when climbing some stairs we see on the pavement a phrase that stands out written in large letters “ONLY MORE BEAUTIFUL IN HEAVEN”.

These letters appear written in black limestone, and the technical details of the elaborate motifs present on the sidewalk stand out in the letters.

The phrase “ONLY MORE BEAUTIFUL IN HEAVEN” appears linked to a respectful veneration of Our Lady of Sameiro.

In the center we see a corridor with white stone where the crown of Our Lady of Sameiro made of black limestone consisting of four closed arches topped by a Latin cross stands out on the pavement.

The Crown of Our Lady of Sameiro symbolizes the royalty of the Virgin Mary and the fifth Glorious Mystery which is her Coronation where Our Lady was crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth and also the Queen of Angels and can intercede for all of us with the Father in Heaven.
The figure of stars drawn on the pavement of the Sameiro Sanctuary

Next we see geometric figures that resemble stars with black limestone made up of eight points and point to the Sanctity of Our Lady of Sameiro.

The Church attributes the title of Star to Our Lady because it recognizes that the Virgin Mary is a safe sign of reference, guidance for all of us who travel in the dark night of this world, and is also called the Star of Evangelization.

The Star called Our Lady of Sameiro points to a Path that is to follow her Son Jesus Christ. The Virgin Mary is a presence that questions and invites us to encounter Christ, whether hearing the word of God through the priest or through communion.
