Largo de São Paulo, in Braga

Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Torre is located in the center of Largo de São Paulo, in Braga, northern Portugal.

Marking one of the medieval lookout points and one of the entrances to the city, the Santiago Tower still retains its medieval appearance contrasting with the rocaille decoration that covers the North façade.

This is divided into two registers: the upper one is marked by the stone clock and the bell tower and the lower one by the Oratory of Nossa Senhora da Torre, which was introduced there in the 17th century. XVIII.

The chapel was designed by André Soares and its construction was due to a thanksgiving to the Virgin, for protecting the school during the great earthquake of 1755 that caused considerable destruction throughout the country.

To the north, it overlooks Largo de São Paulo bordered by the imposing building of the Jesuit College of Santiago, which communicates directly with the Tower. These passages are currently boarded up.

Passing the Porta de Santiago, on the left side, we find the main entrance to the College and the Palácio dos Falcões.
