Travessa do Carmo, in Braga

The Church of the Thirds is located in Largo de São Francisco, city of Braga, northern Portugal.

The church of the Third Regular Order of São Francisco dates back to 1690, having been built using alms from the faithful.

Interior

Inside the church, the ceiling is vaulted in stone, the altars are in gilded carvings and the walls are tiled with hagiographic motifs signed by Nicolau de Freitas.

The lateral bodies were designed and built by José Fernandes Graça, surnamed Landim and who was in charge of the stonework and sculpture designed by Carlos Amarante.
Facade

The façade, where the baroque style is already emerging, features a broken pediment, surmounted by a cross and the coat of arms of Saint Francis.

The central niche displays the image of Our Lady of Conception.

Church with imposing baroque pediment and cross pediment.

The tower is at the rear of the church (an architectural solution typical of several temples in Braga).
Restoration

Since 2012, the temple has been classified as a property of public interest.

In April 2017, conservation and restoration work began, focusing, initially, on the facade and roofs of the church, including the treatment of the tiles and restoration of the tower.

In the second phase, corresponding to the restoration of the interior, the side altars were treated and the tiles, images, side altarpieces and flooring were restored.

The public inauguration of the intervention took place on June 13, 2018.
