The Portuguese Catholic University of Braga is located on Rua de Camões, parish of São Vicente, City of Braga, Northern Portugal.

The Universidade Católica Portuguesa is a private university with a special legal regime, headquartered in Lisbon and with campuses in Lisbon, Braga, Porto and Viseu.

According to its Statutes, the Portuguese Catholic University is a non-state public higher education institution that belongs to the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, recognized by the Portuguese State.

UCP is recognized as one of the best universities in Portugal, with more than 11,000 students and 7,549 postgraduate students.

In September 2020, the Medicine course was approved at the Catholic University and was the first in private education in Portugal.

The Campus of the city where the Universidade Católica Portuguesa was founded with the Faculty of Philosophy in 1967.

The origin of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa dates back to October 13, 1967, when it integrated the Faculty of Philosophy of Braga as the first institution, which had already been operating in the city since 1947.

In 1971, the Portuguese Catholic University was recognized by the State as a legal entity of public utility.

The Braga Regional Center was created on October 25, 1999 with the aim of consolidating and developing the presence of the Portuguese Catholic University in the region.

The Braga Regional Center of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa integrates the buildings of Campus Camões (owned by UCP), Praça da Faculdade (owned by the Society of Jesus), and Rua de Santa Margarida (owned by the Archdiocese of Braga).

The Camões Campus, located on Rua de Camões, includes the buildings of the Central Services of the Regional Center, the School Services and facilities for the academic service of the Faculties, as well as the Car Park and the Miradouro do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (a tourist attraction in Braga).

The Braga Regional Center integrates the following faculties: Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Theology.
